Once he left Purple in late '74-early '75 he just wanted to have a band where he was the unquestioned leader, hence Rainbow where he was the only constant. Rainbow never recorded two studio albums with the same personnel because Ritchie is moody (for lack of a better term) and constantly changed band members. He STILL has his own band (with his wife) at age 66, and is enjoying what he does...
