Oct 28, 2011 - The 1997 Constitution of the Maldives designates Islam as the official state religion. The Government interprets this provision to impose a requirement that citizens be Muslims. Freedom of religion is restricted significantly. The law prohibits the practice by Maldivian citizens of any religion other than Islam. The president is the "supreme authority to propagate the tenets of Islam." Government regulations are based on Islamic law (Shari'a). "Paradise" for a qufr!

Jan 6, 2012 - I've been to The Maldives once, but never again. The place is beautiful, but the atmosphere of religious bigotry in this totalitarian state is revoltingly obnoxious, and you can feel it even from hotel staff, especially male. It is high time we who would spend our money there, went elsewhere, and show these stone age cretins exactly what we think of their religious intolerance. How they got away it for so long, I'll never know. But don't say you have not been warned!

mamananau Says:

Jan 12, 2012 - I was there and I can promise you. In real life it's even better than it looks on pictures or videos!
