(I'm assuming because of the name paa Daeng(red)I'm familiar with the difference Lahu Naa ,Lahu Nii, Lahu Sheleh etc. Interesting...as I have a Lahu family who are very close friends(feels like family..know them 15 years) who are Lahu and live in a village named Paa Daeng but close to Chiang Mai and really in the mountains...your wife's village looks a little lower in elevation.From the hat I'm guessing Canadian..me too! I can't believe how many Pa Daeng villages I have noticed all over Thailand. With the soil here, I guess "Red Cliff" makes a good name for a lot of places, including Thai villages. So are you married to a Lahu person, or just friends? My wife's village in in Chiang Rai province, south of the city, down a road from Mae Suai (along the 118). The area is known as Wawee.

No... the Lahu people I know are just very close friends for many years,from when I used to live in Thailand.I'm married to a Thai from the MeaRim area for 9 years now(we live in Canada for the time being...Sooke B.C) This past January we were there and had a house blessing combined with a Buddhist wedding in her village. I know Soi 2 very well back in 1992 there was very little on that Soi.I also know Jan (and now Ning) bar close to you (Ex Enjoy Place)

Aug 25, 2010 - I have some video posted from this January.In the procession video you can see many Lahu people(they are Lahu Nyi(Red) .They came down from the mountain (even during Lahu New Year...I was really honored) to participate in the house blessing and wedding.As mentioned they are like family to me. Yes Lahu Sheleh(Yellow) is less common for sure,and dialect somewhat different. When different Lahu groups occasionally meet then Black Lahu is usually the common language.
