Mele Cascades are a 30 minute bus ride from the centre of Port Vila. The walk up to the falls is around 1.5 km and 100 metre climb - easy for just about anyone. The path up is surrounded by jungle and wild banana plants. The water in the cascades is cold as it comes from an underground spring. Jos and I had a bit of a swim but it was too cold for a long stay. I highly recommend a visit to the cascades if you ever find yourself in Port Vila. We saw some adventurous people rappeling down the falls, looked like fun! It's worth detouring off the main track on the way back from the cascades - where the track branches to the right - for a nice elevated view of Port Vila and surrounding jungle. I took this video using the Kodak V530 digital still camera, hence the quality is a bit off. I didn't think the CX-100 would stand up to the waterfall spray too well. The V530 records video in 640 x 480 at 30 fps.
